Determine which walls need artwork or wall decor. Choose large artwork in proportion and scale to the wall or groupings of smaller pictures or wall art.
A large picture can give you instant drama in your chosen colour scheme. If you are using smaller framed artwork, create cohesion by making all the smaller pieces have something in common such as the frame. Or do the opposite and repeat the same image in different frames.

You don’t want to clutter the surface with mass produced items from the same shop/store. Choose well, sometimes less is more.

There are two kinds of balance you will want to achieve, symmetrical and asymmetrical. For a formal setting you would usually use the symmetrical layout of accessories.
A mirror in the centre with two other items either side but instead of flanking a vase in each side, think of grouping smaller items in groups of 3 or 5. So maybe a vase on one side and on the other, group items to balance it out.

The most common mistake is to have a rug the size of a postage stamp in comparison to the room, plonked in front of the sofa or fireplace.
Ideally go large with all furniture on.
