They’re Saying ‘I Do’ – and You’re Saying ‘Help Me!’: How I Create Guest-Ready Interiors
There’s nothing quite like the excitement of a wedding in the family. Whether your son or daughter is tying the knot, it’s a joyful time filled with planning, celebrations—and guests arriving from near and far - into your home.
But let’s be honest: while they’re planning their big day, and you find yourself deep in wedding plan mode, once you get your head around what on earth to wear - the sudden realisation (which you might be quietly panicking about), is your home. Suddenly, that tired old sofa or scuffed hallway paint feels impossible to ignore. With friends, extended family, and neighbours popping in, you want your home to feel welcoming, stylish, and guest-ready—but where do you even begin?
Don’t worry, we have you covered.
Why a Wedding-Season Home Refresh Makes a Big Difference
Your home becomes a hub during wedding season - hosting everything from entertaining relatives and friends to pre-wedding photos and post-party get togethers. Many of my clients just want the downstairs areas to feel fresh, welcoming and ready for guests without the stress of trying to do it all themselves.
You’ll be glad to hear there’s no need for a total renovation, a few smart updates can completely change the mood of a space and is completely doable.
Weddings are one of life’s big milestones—not just for the couple but for the whole family. Many of my clients come to me because they want their home to reflect the joy and pride they feel. They’re not trying to redecorate everything—they just want their downstairs rooms to feel fresh, elegant, and ready to welcome guests.
You don’t need to be superwoman and feel stressed out having to take on this project yourself, weddings should be joyful, it’s a big deal and you can enjoy the celebrations too.
To be honest a lot of my clients feel so overwhelmed because they haven’t got around to decorating and updating their homes in years, so it’s definitely well overdue and they feel they’d never have gotten around to it.
Where to Focus: The Rooms Guests Notice Most
Dining Rooms, Lounges & Loos, these are the spaces guests notice most (and I’m going to help you get them right).
If you’re short on time (and energy), focus on the spaces your guests are guaranteed to see:
The Hallway - It’s the first impression. Fresh paint, a statement mirror and good lighting are key.
The Lounge - Cosy, stylish and clutter-free is the goal. This is where guests relax, chat and gather. If the sofa is looking a bit tired, opt for a large area rug - these are inexpensive try Dunelm or Kukoon. Add some beautiful cushions to detract from the sofa and add a level of comfort. Consider some occasional side tables, you know the little ones that slide under the sofa, great space savers, look stylish and practical - they’re going to need somewhere to put their glass of bubbly or cup of tea on.
Dining Room or kitchen - From buffets to brunches, it’s all going to happen in here. Have some extra little stools or fold away chairs that you can easily store away for guests that need to sit down. If your dining table has seen better days, a beautiful table cloth will cover a multiple of sins and you can really style it up with fresh flowers for the centrepiece. If you can stretch to it, a new pair of curtains and roman blind always finish off the room.
The Downstairs Loo - Small space, big impact! This is one area you can let your creativity shine. Go bold in colour or wallpaper - honestly, it’s the one area you can afford to go mad in. Think beautiful hand towels, candles and scents.
How I Help Clients Get Wedding-Ready
