Creating A Scandinavian Look For Your Home
Do you gravitate towards the effortless and minimalistic look that Scandinavian homes offer. Maybe it’s the lightness of the space, the warm and cosy feel of wood and natural textures that feels like the kind of home you want to create.
Let’s dive into creating a beautiful living space which perfectly captures the essence of Scandi design, blending warm wood textures, soft textiles, and an airy, light-filled atmosphere.
A style that feels both relaxed and refined, welcoming as well as stylish…
How to Achieve Effortless Scandinavian Style in Your Home

Let’s break down the key elements that make this style effortlessly Scandi-chic and how you can recreate the look in your own home.
The Key Elements For A Scandinavian Look
Relaxing Colours - Light and airy colours in whites, greys, soft beiges, including dusty pinks and muted tones.
Natural Materials – Pale wood, stone, wool, and linen add warmth and texture.
Maximimise Natural Light – Dress large windows in sheer curtains, and introduce subtle reflective surfaces.
Functional Furniture – Create space with well-designed pieces that serve a purpose or have a dual purpose, think ottoman used as a coffee table, footstool and storage. Media units to house clutter.
Greenery Is A Must – Houseplants bring a fresh, natural element indoors. A personal favourite of mine is the Fig tree.

How To Make A Scandinavian Home Look Cosy
Although the beauty of this design is minamilistic, you will want it to feel cosy, you can achieve this by using elements of warm tactile pieces, an upholstered sofa in suede or boucle wool will feel very cosy and luxurious to sit in. A deep pile large area rug for something soft and sumptuous underfoot. Cushions in linen and velvet which feel like butter.
Layer lighting for that warm glow to make it feel welcoming and inviting.
A Balanced Mix of Materials
So often with trends you can be in danger of creating a cookie cutter look or something that resembles a room set straight out of a Next Home Store. If you want to avoid this, don’t buy everything from the same shop, a simple way to mix textures is to think of mixing rough and smooth, smooth stone looks good with a textured basketweave, cane or a loop pile textured rug.
A light Filled Room
To maximise light and make the most of what natural light you have coming in, be careful how you dress the windows. Take the pole or track well off the window (you might find this useful, you can read here>>) and use a simple heading on your curtains that can be easily stacked back. Linen voiles are perfect for adjusting light when needed while bringing a sense of softness and airiness to the space.
Scandinavian Furniture Basics
You won’t find it difficult to find scandinavian inspired furniture, a few of my favourites include Barker and Stonehouse, Scandi.co.uk and Sweetpea and Willow to name but a few.

What I love about this image is the juxatposition of the relaxed fabrics used in the sofas with the elegant lines of the fireplace and silk roman blinds. This could be interpreted as an effortless scandi-inspired living room. Andrew Martin has a beautiful range of fabrics and textiles to inspire you to recreate the look.
